Day 3: First Day of College Fairs in Beijing

Photo: Tom with administrators from Inner Mongolia University who want to visit SVC in the fall.

Went to the first day of the college fair in a huge hall in Beijing. Universities from around the world were there. Passed out dozens of pieces of literature on SVC, yet very difficult to say what the follow-up will be. Had quite a few conversations, some of which were detailed and interesting, and yet there are so many other schools as well, and language barrier is real in many cases. Huge crowd all day and very interesting.
Met with representatives from Inner Mongolia University who will be touring in Vermont in the fall performing Mongolian dance and music and would do us well to hook up with them.
I am getting a much clearer picture of what is involved in cracking the China market. Relationships and trust are key all around. Went to a function sponsored by the Chinese government and was greeted by speeches, awards, and some interesting contacts.
Will press on for next two days at the hall and look forward to that. It was fun today. All the best to all. cheers, Tom

It's great that you have the chance to spread knowledge of our school to students in China. Hopefully some of the ones that have learned about SVC are interested. I'm sure we could all benefit from having more diversity on campus especially to learn about Chinese culture. It's great that relationships and trust are a high value especially because it seems to be different from an outside perspective, although it should be expected considering their long history.
The Mongolian dance performance sounds like it could be a great show. Will they be near the Bennington area?
Best of luck out there!
